Originally released in 2006, Oblivion was groundbreaking for its time and still holds up very well today. Lol yes!! And all apart of the multi Bethesda cinematic (or whatever term would be used to describe the equal in the gaming sphere lol) universe ! Like if you had literally just finished Skyrim I would want you to immediately try to jump into fallout.If you want to take a break from being the Dragonborn, but you’re still eager for more adventures in the Elder Scrolls world, Skyrim’s predecessor is the obvious choice. (Still worth playing if you have a modern PC or current gen console though.) For example, Cyberpunk 2077 went for a similar cocktail and it was a bit of a mess. And there just aren’t a lot of games like that, in part because that specific combo is especially daunting to make. The one thing that you will find is that Skyrim combines an open world western RPG with a bunch of immersive sim elements.
All these picks just reflect parts of it that you might have liked, but Skyrim is uniquely greater than the sum of its parts IMO. While it shared a “big open fantasy world with lots of side quests” vibe, it didn’t let you create your own character, the setting was less escapist and more oppressive, and it lacked all the immersive-sim or simulation-like systems and interactions that make Skyrim so special.īut really, despite all the snarking people do about Skyrim and Bethesda, there really is nothing else quite like it. Dragon’s Dogma, also, maybe.Ī lot of people will say The Witcher series, but I didn’t like The Witcher 3 personally. On PS3, there are fewer games like Skyrim, but there are some. Also Ghost of Tsushima and Horizon: Zero Dawn. (Of these, only Oblivion and Fallout 3 are on PS3.)īeyond that, I had a very Skyrim-esque getting-lost-in-a-world experience with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and to a lesser extent, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. A lot of people don’t like Fallout 76, which is multiplayer, but I say don’t knock it till you try it. So obviously, try some other recent games from the same studio: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 4, Fallout 3.
